Set up to share printers

To share the printer on a PC running Microsoft Windows XP:
  1. Select Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click the printer and select Sharing.

  1. Click Share This Printer.
  2. Enter a name for the shared printer (the name that the other PCs see). You might choose a name that relates to the printer's location, or to its name, for example "FamilyPrinter" or "DownstairsPrint
  3. Click OK.
Tip: You can typically only share the printing functionality on an all-in-one printer. You cannot share the scanning, faxing, or copying functions. However, if your all-in-one is network ready, all home network users can use all the functions.

  5. Leave Browse for a Printer selected and click Next.
  6. On the list of shared printers, click the desired printer, and click Next.

Access a shared printer with computers not running Windows XP

If some of the PCs on your home network run other operating systems (or new or older versions of Windows), you’ll need to get the correct driver software. Follow these steps on the computer that is using the shared printer:
  1. Select Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  2. Right-click the shared printer's icon and select Sharing.
  3. Click Additional Drivers.
  4. In the Additional Drivers dialog box, check the checkboxes for each additional operating system you need to support. Click OK.
  5. If prompted, insert the Windows CD or the CD that came with the printer to copy the needed drivers.
When you set up printer sharing on each PC, as in the preceding section, the drivers/ software will automatically be copied to that PC via the network.
