What is RSS?

Newspapers

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) on HP.com provides an easy way to get the latest news from HP on a variety of different topics. When you subscribe to RSS feeds on HP.com, content updates are automatically added to your RSS newsreader application. So, you get the latest headlines and summaries from HP collected for you in one convenient place. If you want to read more on a particular item, simply click the link within your newsreader application to be taken to the full story.

RSS uses XML (extensible markup language) to share and distribute content. RSS feeds are often denoted by an orange RSS or XML box.

How to use RSS feeds

You can access HP RSS feeds in a number of ways.

  1. Install a newsreader (sometimes called an aggregator) that shows the RSS feeds for which you have subscribed.
  2. Use one of the browsers that have RSS capabilities integrated (such as Mozilla Firefox).
  3. If you use My Yahoo!, you can add RSS feeds to your personal page. See the My Yahoo! RSS FAQ page for more information.

Depending on the service you are using, you can add RSS feeds from HP.com by clicking on the link for the feed you’re most interested in. Some aggregators and browsers will automatically sense all of the RSS feeds available on the page and automatically add them. However, you may need to manually copy and paste the URL that appears when you click the link. If you click an RSS link and see XML code in your browser, simply copy and paste the URL that appears and add it to your aggregator.

To assist users unfamiliar with RSS, a listing of some of the more popular RSS-aware browsers and RSS aggregators is displayed to the right.
