Test results on ink efficiency based on HP internal testing, Aug 2007.
Objective:
Compare levels of printing efficiency in different inkjet printing systems for typical consumer usage, as represented by the total ink used during an 8-week period.
Definitions:
Consumer Usage: A typical inkjet printer user printing general purpose documents that include text and graphics, with a mixture of black and color pages.
Start/Stop Test: Testing that resembles the way that consumers typically print: a few pages a day over an extended time (8 weeks).

(1) The European versions of these cartridges are larger (350XL at 25ml and 351XL at 14ml). Larger cartridges have typically a higher efficiency, as there is less of an impact from the installation servicing. Test results with the European cartridge version therefore would be even move favorable for HP.

Summary Findings:
HP Photosmart C5280 used the least amount of ink during this test.
Kodak EasyShare 5300 used the most amount of ink during this test.

Ink Usage:
Ink used represents the total ink used during an 8 week start/stop test. Printing was conducted on each printer at the rate of 70 pages per month. The total usage represents the combined black and color inks for all printers
Methodology:
Three printers of each model with three sets of cartridges each were tested using a single computer to ensure a standardized environment – the same methodology as defined in the ISO test for page yield for ink (ISO/IEC 24711).
Printers had completed all startup initialization routines prior to the start of the test.
The print suite consisted of black and color documents containing text and graphics.
Printing was done a couple of pages at a time over the period of 8 weeks.
No cartridges were changed during the duration of the tests.
Printers were not power cycled during the test.
Print mode: Default on plain paper.
Each cartridge was weighed immediately before test start and at the completion of the test.
Difference between the cartridge weights at the start and at the end of test represents the Ink Usage.
The test results demonstrate a difference in ink efficiency which is statistically meaningful. |
